Couples Conflict Therapy
Resolve Disagreements and Move Forward
Arguments can be hard, but conflict is actually a healthy part of every relationship. The key is resolving whatever issue quickly and fully. Our therapists teach couples communication skills so you can feel close again.
Passive aggressive comments.
Why do we say and do things that may hurt the person we know and love the most?
There’s no one easy answer to that question. There can be so many factors involved. Maybe something has been simmering for a long time and you just couldn’t hold it in any longer. Other times, couples fall into unhealthy patterns. What really matters is that you and your partner want to change how you communicate. You both want to feel heard.
Rekindle your connection
Don’t let fear, frustration or embarrassment keep you from tackling the crap that keeps getting in the way. Every relationship is different, and you are accepted here. We don’t judge your partnership or how you have handled conflicts in the past. Whether you’re struggling with gridlocked conflicts around big life decisions or small events throughout the day, we are here to help. With this type of couples counseling, you can expect your therapist to:
- Actively collaborate with both of you
- Identify habits and patterns that are harming your connection
- Teach and practice healthy communication strategies
- Offer advice on skills associated with happiness and longevity in relationships
Sometimes you may blurt out hurtful things that you didn’t mean. Other times, you lash out on purpose. Our counselors help couples understand impulses that are detrimental. Even in the heat of an argument, you will learn to move away from negative patterns and lean into the communication strategies you’ve practiced.
If you’re dating, engaged or married, psychotherapy helps couples who haven’t been able to get past certain conflicts. We will share research-based communication strategies and tools so you can authentically show up, face your issues and strengthen your connection.
Onsite & Online Therapy
Psychotherapy Associates of Chicago provides onsite & HIPAA-compliant teletherapy sessions. Although in-person sessions are generally preferable, an online therapist can be a great option when this is not possible. Contact us for more information.
