Teletherapy Where You Need It
Chicago Teletherapy

Online therapy, anywhere in Illinois.

Online therapy at Psychotherapy Associates of Chicago is a 50–60-minute session with one of our Illinois-licensed therapists, over secure video. You need to live in Illinois and be in Illinois at the time of the session. We see online clients seven days a week, 8 AM to 9 PM. Most of our therapists are in-network with BCBS PPO and BlueChoice plans; some also take UnitedHealthcare, UBH/Optum and UMR. See insurance and fees or  book online.

We help you confront fears, acknowledge struggles and develop healthier strategies so you can live with greater courage, connection and meaning. You won’t do that work alone.

What To Expect From Online Counseling:

  • Most of what we offer in person is also available by video: individual therapy, couples therapy, child and teen therapy, mindfulness and psychiatric medication management with our nurse practitioner.
  • Our therapists work with approaches including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and EMDR, and we’ll match you with someone whose approach fits what you’re working on.
  • Online therapy, online counseling, virtual therapy and teletherapy all mean the same thing. They’re just like in-person appointments, except that they happen over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video service.
  • These video sessions, like traditional therapy, are conducted by your chosen licensed therapist in real time.

How Does Online Psychotherapy Work?

  • Schedule your session using our appointment scheduler or by emailing Jonathan Levy, co-director, jonathan@pac.clinic
  • New clients may choose from any of our therapists. Existing clients can continue working with their current clinician.
  • Before your session, you’ll get an automated email reminder with a link.
  • No special software is needed. Click the secure link and you’ll be connected to your therapist by video, from home or wherever you are in Illinois.
  • You have the option of either using your computer’s internet browser or downloading the “SimplePractice” app onto your smartphone. Both options are fully secure and HIPAA compliant.

Therapy and Medication, Together

Sometimes talking it through is enough. Sometimes your mind and body could use a little extra support, too. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner offers psychiatric medication management for depression, anxiety, insomnia and more, working alongside your PAC therapist so everyone’s on the same page, via secure video.

Online Therapy & Teletherapy FAQ

Yes. Teletherapy is covered by the same plans as in-person sessions. Most of our therapists are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) PPO, BlueChoice PPO and BlueChoice Select; some are also in-network with UnitedHealthcare (including Surest and StudentResources), UBH/Optum and UMR. With other carriers we’re out of network and can give you a superbill to submit for reimbursement. Sessions are for Illinois residents who are physically in Illinois at the time of the session. Deductibles and copayments may apply. If you have questions about your coverage, email Anna, our practice manager, at anna@pac.clinic or see our insurance and fees page.

We have two easy options. Book online using our appointment scheduler or email Jonathan Levy, co-director, at jonathan@pac.clinic. Learn more about our licensed therapists and their specialties.

Online sessions run 50–60 minutes, the same as in person. You’ll need a phone, tablet or computer with a camera, a reliable internet connection and a private, quiet place to talk. No special software is required: before your appointment you’ll get an email with a secure link, and you click it a few minutes before your start time to join your therapist by video.

The same approaches we use in the office: mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and EMDR, along with individual, couples and teen (12+) therapy and psychiatric medication management with our nurse practitioner.

The online therapy session through the video service is fully secure and HIPAA compliant.

No, we don’t offer sliding-scale fees. You’ll know your fee before your first session. Most of our therapists are in-network with BCBS PPO and BlueChoice; if your plan is out of network, we’ll give you a superbill you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. See our insurance and fees page for details.

Why PAC for psychotherapy?

We are here to help people. It’s what we do and who we are. We don’t feel the need to rattle off clinical jargon, write for academic journals or pretend we’ve got all the answers.

We listen with an open heart and help you see options, find clarity, address issues. Your concerns guide our therapeutic approach, whether that’s mindfulness-based work, ACT, EMDR or plain talk therapy. We each have diverse specialties so you can choose one of our Illinois licensed therapists that fits you. Sometimes you instantly click with a therapist. Other times, you don’t. We want to make sure people get the help they need, even if that means referring you to someone outside our practice. People come to us for anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and life transition, and we work on all of them by video as well as in person.

Our Chicago community has counted on our psychotherapy practice since 2001. It’s a true privilege knowing that we have created a resource for our neighbors. We are an inclusive practice serving individuals, couples and teens (12+) of all genders, sexual orientations, races and ethnicities. All are welcome.
